Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- فَسَجَدَ (fa-sajada): So they prostrated — an act of humble submission and obedience to Allah's command.
- الْمَلَائِكَةُ (al-mala'ikah): The angels — noble, sinless creations of Allah, created from light, who never disobey His command.
- كُلُّهُمْ (kulluhum): All of them — indicating complete inclusion without exception.
- أَجْمَعُونَ (ajma'un): Together, entirely — a second emphatic word that reinforces the totality, leaving no room for any single angel to be excluded.
Explanation of the Verse:
After Allah commanded the angels to prostrate before Adam — honoring him and showing his exalted status — they responded with absolute obedience. The verse states that *all* the angels, without a single exception, prostrated. The Arabic text uses two emphatic expressions ("kulluhum" and "ajma'un") to stress that the prostration was universal and complete; no angel hesitated, refused, or was excluded from this act of worship. This was their nature: pure submission to their Lord's will, carried out instantly and wholeheartedly. The verse sets the stage for what follows — the stark contrast with Iblis (Satan), who refused to obey, breaking away from the angels' unanimous compliance out of pride and arrogance.
Reflection and Call:
This verse is a beautiful reminder of the angels' perfect obedience and their reverence for Allah's command. They did not question, argue, or delay — they simply submitted. Imagine the honor bestowed upon Adam: the angels, mighty and glorious, prostrated before him by Allah's order. This teaches us the immense dignity of the human being when he or she follows Allah's guidance. It also invites us to reflect on our own obedience: do we respond to Allah's commands with the same immediacy and sincerity? When Allah calls us to prayer, to honesty, to kindness, to repentance — do we rush to comply, or do we hesitate? Let the angels' example inspire you to submit to Allah with a pure heart, for true success lies in surrendering to the One who created you. And beware of the path of Iblis — the path of pride and arrogance — for it leads only to loss, while humility and obedience lead to Allah's mercy and eternal reward.
