Surah Al-Hijr — Verse 28

Tafsir (Interpretation):

O Prophet, remind yourself and your people of the profound moment when your Lord announced to the angels — and Iblis was present among them — His majestic decree: “I am creating a human being from dry, ringing clay, derived from black, foul-smelling mud that has been transformed over time.”

This verse unveils the noble origin of humanity — not a random accident, but a deliberate, divine act of creation. Allah informed the angels of His intention before forming Adam, highlighting the honor and purpose embedded in human existence. The description of the clay — dry, sounding, dark, and altered — emphasizes the humble earthly material from which man was fashioned, yet it is precisely this humble origin that magnifies the miracle of Allah’s creative power: from such lowly substance, He breathed life, intellect, and spirit.

So turn to your Lord, the One who fashioned you with His own hands, and ask Him to guide you to the purpose He designed for you. He did not create you to abandon you — He created you to know Him, worship Him, and attain His mercy. Will you not respond to such a generous call?
