Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Sulṭānuhu: His authority, power, or influence.
- Yatawallawnahu: Those who take him as an ally, guardian, or friend; those who follow and obey him.
- Mushrikūn: Those who associate partners with Allah in worship.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse clarifies the true extent of Satan’s power and influence, serving as a profound reassurance for believers. Allah (Glorified be He) declares that Satan has no authority or compelling force over His sincere servants—those who have true faith in Allah and His Messenger, and who place their complete trust and reliance solely upon their Lord. Such believers are protected by Allah’s grace, and Satan’s whispers cannot penetrate their hearts or lead them astray.
Rather, Satan’s influence is confined to two groups of people. First, those who willingly take him as their ally and guardian—people who choose to follow his suggestions, obey his commands, and submit to his temptations. They open the door for him by their own choice, and thus he finds a way to dominate their minds and hearts. Second, those who, because of their obedience to Satan, have fallen into the grave sin of shirk—associating partners with Allah in worship. Their submission to Satan leads them to worship false deities, idols, or other beings alongside Allah, thereby severing their connection with true monotheism.
The verse makes it clear that Satan’s power is not inherent or absolute; it is merely a test and a consequence of one’s own choices. When a person turns away from Allah and embraces disobedience, they grant Satan a foothold over themselves. Conversely, when a person clings to faith, sincerity, and reliance on Allah alone, they become immune to Satan’s schemes, for Allah Himself shields them from his evil.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse is a beautiful reminder of the protective power of faith. It teaches us that the battle against Satan is not one of unequal forces—rather, it is a battle of choice. You hold the key to your own protection. When you place your trust in Allah, seek His guidance, and strive to obey His commands, you build an impenetrable fortress around your heart. Satan cannot enter where faith resides.
Let this verse inspire you to strengthen your relationship with Allah. Turn to Him in every moment of weakness, seek refuge in Him from the accursed Satan, and fill your life with acts of worship, remembrance of Allah, and sincere devotion. The more you draw near to Allah, the further Satan retreats from you. Embrace the sweetness of faith, and you will find that the whispers of evil lose their power over your soul. Allah’s promise is true: those who sincerely rely on Him will never be left vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks.
