Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Sulṭān (سُلْطَان): Authority, power, or dominance. Here it means any effective influence or control over someone.
- Yatawakkalūn (يَتَوَكَّلُونَ): They place their full trust and reliance upon Allah alone, entrusting all their affairs to Him.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse delivers a profound and comforting promise to the believers. Allah Almighty declares that Satan—despite all his cunning, whispers, and relentless efforts to mislead humanity—has no authority or true power over those who have sincerely embraced faith in Allah and His Messenger, and who place their complete trust in their Lord alone.
The meaning is that such believers are protected because their hearts are firmly anchored in Allah. They do not obey Satan's commands, nor do they accept his insinuations and doubts. When they seek refuge in Allah from him, Allah shields them from his whispers. Their reliance upon Allah is not merely a verbal claim; it is a living reality that manifests in their actions, their patience, and their steadfastness upon the truth. Because they have surrendered their affairs to Allah, Satan finds no opening through which to penetrate their hearts or sway their resolve.
In contrast, as the context of the verse implies, Satan's influence is only effective over those who take him as an ally and obey him—those who, by their own choice, follow his footsteps and associate partners with Allah. Such people have opened the door for him themselves, and thus he gains sway over them through their own negligence and disobedience.
A Call to Faith and Reliance:
Dear reader, this verse is a beacon of hope and a source of immense strength for every believer. It tells you that no matter how powerful the forces of evil may seem, they are utterly powerless against a heart that is truly connected to Allah. Your protection does not lie in your own strength or cleverness, but in your sincere faith and your unwavering trust in your Creator.
So, whenever you feel the whispers of doubt, despair, or sin creeping into your heart, remember this divine guarantee. Strengthen your faith, renew your reliance upon Allah, and seek His refuge. For the One who created you, who knows your struggles, and who has promised to protect His sincere servants—He is more than sufficient for you. Let your heart find peace in His promise, and let your life be a living testimony of trust in the Most Merciful. Indeed, there is no power, no authority, and no true refuge except with Allah, the Lord of all worlds.
