Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Phrases:
- "They recognize the favor of Allah" (Ya'rifoona ni'mat Allah): They know and acknowledge the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon them.
- "Then they deny it" (Thumma yunkiroonaha): Despite this recognition, they reject and repudiate these blessings.
- "And most of them are the disbelievers" (Wa aktharuhum al-kafiroon): The majority of them are ungrateful deniers of the truth.
Tafsir (Explanation):
These people fully recognize the countless blessings that Allah has poured upon them — the gift of life, provision, security, and above all, the greatest blessing of all: the sending of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a mercy to mankind. They know this truth in their hearts, and yet, astonishingly, they turn away and deny it. They refuse to acknowledge the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and reject the very message that would lead them to salvation.
This is the height of ingratitude — to know the truth clearly, and then to deliberately reject it. Their denial is not born out of ignorance, but out of arrogance, stubbornness, and blind following of their forefathers. They worship idols and false deities instead of the One who created them and sustains them every single moment.
The verse concludes by stating that most of them are disbelievers — meaning the majority of the Quraysh and their likes were ungrateful deniers of Allah's favors. They did not merely fail to thank Allah; they actively fought against His religion and His Messenger.
A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:
Dear reader, pause and reflect upon your own life. Every breath you take, every beat of your heart, every meal you eat — these are all blessings from Allah that you did not earn and cannot repay. The greatest blessing of all is Islam itself — the guidance that leads you to eternal happiness in this life and the Hereafter.
Do not be among those who recognize Allah's blessings but then deny them through their actions and words. Let your gratitude be shown through your obedience to Allah, your love for His Messenger (peace be upon him), and your commitment to following the straight path.
The door of repentance is always open. Come back to your Lord with a sincere heart, thank Him for His countless favors, and you will find that He increases you in goodness and mercy. Allah says: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favor" (Ibrahim: 7). Let this be your motto — gratitude in words, in heart, and in action — so that you may be among the successful in this world and the Hereafter.
