Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Madhmūman (مَلُومًا): Blamed, reproached, or censured — one who is blamed by themselves and by others.
- Madḥūran (مَدْحُورًا): Driven away, expelled, or banished — removed far from all goodness and mercy.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse concludes a series of divine commandments and prohibitions that Allah revealed to His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These rulings — commanding noble deeds and forbidding base morals — are part of the profound wisdom (al-ḥikmah) that your Lord has imparted to you, O Prophet. They are not arbitrary rules but a complete system of guidance, perfectly structured and deeply meaningful, designed to elevate the human soul and purify society.
Then comes the most crucial command, the foundation upon which all else rests: "Do not set up with Allah another god." This is addressed to every human being, not just the Prophet. The message is clear — worship belongs to Allah alone. No partner, no rival, no intermediary in His exclusive right to be worshipped.
The consequence is vividly described: if you commit this grave sin, you will be thrown into Hellfire, and there you will find yourself blamed and driven away. You will be blamed by your own soul for the choices you made, blamed by the people who followed your example, and driven far from every form of good, mercy, and divine compassion. Imagine standing in that place of punishment, fully aware that you had been warned, that the truth had reached you, and yet you turned away — what regret, what shame, what loss!
This verse is a loving warning from your Creator, who does not wish to see you in such a state. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has already given you the map to safety: worship Him alone, follow His guidance, and you will find honor, peace, and eternal success. The door of repentance is always open — do not let a single moment pass without turning back to Him, for He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
