Word Meanings:

  • Kullu dhalika (كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ): All of that which has been mentioned previously.
  • Sayyi'uhu (سَيِّئُهُ): Its evil or sinful aspect; that which is reprehensible and harmful.
  • Makruhan (مَكْرُوهًا): Detested, abhorred, and disliked by Allah; something He has prohibited and is displeased with.

Explanation of the Verse:

After listing a series of divine commands and prohibitions—ranging from honoring parents and fulfilling promises to avoiding extravagance, killing one's children out of fear of poverty, approaching indecency, taking life unjustly, and consuming the wealth of orphans—this verse delivers a powerful, comprehensive verdict: all of that which has been mentioned, its evil and sinful aspect, is detested by your Lord and is not pleasing to Him.

This means that Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, has clearly marked the boundaries of right and wrong. Every prohibition mentioned earlier is not arbitrary or restrictive; rather, it is a protection for humanity. The word *makruh* here signifies deep divine aversion—Allah does not merely dislike these actions; He abhors them because they bring harm to individuals, families, and societies. They corrupt the soul, sever ties of kinship, destroy communities, and lead to misery in this life and the next.

This verse serves as a solemn reminder that human beings are not left without guidance. The Creator, who knows what is in our best interest, has laid down a clear path. When we avoid what He detests and embrace what He loves, we align ourselves with the very purpose of our existence—worship and righteousness.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the beauty of this divine statement. Your Lord, who created you and knows your innermost being, has already told you what harms you and what benefits you. He does not prohibit anything except that it contains evil for you, and He does not command anything except that it contains good. This is the ultimate expression of love and care from your Creator.

So, when you find yourself tempted by a sin—whether it is dishonesty, injustice, or indulgence in what Allah has forbidden—remember that your Lord detests it. And when you turn away from it for His sake, He replaces it with tranquility, purity, and blessings beyond your imagination. Embrace the commands of Allah with a joyful heart, for in them lies your success in this world and your salvation in the Hereafter. Let this verse be a beacon that guides you away from what angers Allah and toward what pleases Him, for indeed, His pleasure is the greatest reward.

📜 Verse 36-40 — Al-Isra

And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned.
And do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.
All that - its evil is ever, in the sight of your Lord, detested.
That is from what your Lord has revealed to you, [O Muhammad], of wisdom. And, [O mankind], do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity, lest you be thrown into Hell, blamed and banished.
Then, has your Lord chosen you for [having] sons and taken from among the angels daughters? Indeed, you say a grave saying.
