Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Samīyan (سَمِيًّا): A namesake, counterpart, or equal — someone who shares His name or resembles Him in any way.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse stands as a majestic declaration of Allah's absolute Lordship. He is the Lord — the Creator, Owner, and Sustainer — of the heavens, the earth, and everything that exists between them. Nothing in all of existence falls outside His dominion; every star, every creature, every hidden secret of the universe is under His command and care.
Because He alone holds this supreme position, the command follows: "So worship Him alone" — direct your devotion, prayer, love, and obedience exclusively to Him, O Prophet, and all who follow you. No one else deserves even a fraction of your worship, for He is the sole possessor of divinity.
Then comes the call to "persevere patiently in His worship" — endure steadfastly in obedience to His commands and abstain from what He forbids, even when it is difficult. Worship requires patience: patience in performing prayers consistently, patience in restraining the soul from desires, patience in continuing on the path of faith despite trials. This patience is the key that unlocks the sweetness of worship and the rewards of the Hereafter.
The verse concludes with a profound rhetorical question: "Do you know of any equal to Him?" This is a challenge to all of creation — search the heavens and the earth, look at all that exists, and you will find no one comparable to Allah, no one who shares His names, His attributes, or His actions. He is unique in His essence, His names, His qualities, and His deeds. There is nothing like Him whatsoever.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse fills the believer's heart with awe and love. When you realize that the One you worship is the Lord of all that exists — the One who has no partner, no equal, no rival — your worship becomes meaningful, your patience becomes light, and your heart finds rest. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) bore this message with extraordinary patience, and so can you. Every act of worship, every moment of patience, draws you closer to this incomparable Lord. Let this verse be a source of strength: you worship the One who has no equal — so let your devotion be unmatched, and your patience be unshakable. There is no god worthy of worship but Him, and no heart that turns to Him will ever be lost.
