Khaalideena feehi wa saaa`a lahum Yawmal Qiyaamati himlaa
📖 English Meaning
[Abiding] eternally therein, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load -
📜

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Khālidīna fīh — Abiding eternally therein (in that punishment).
  • Sā'a lahum — How evil it is for them.
  • Ḥimlā — A burden (i.e., the heavy load of sin they carry).

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse follows the mention of those who turn away from the Qur'an and reject its guidance. Allah describes their fate: they will remain forever in the torment that results from their burden of sin. The word "khālidīn" (abiding eternally) emphasizes that this punishment is not temporary—it is everlasting, with no escape and no relief.

Then Allah says, "How evil for them on the Day of Resurrection is the burden!" This is a powerful rhetorical expression of condemnation. The "burden" refers to the weight of their sins—specifically, their disbelief in the Qur'an and their refusal to follow its guidance. On that Day, they will carry this heavy load, and it will drag them into the Fire. The verse paints a vivid picture: just as a person struggles under an unbearable physical weight, these sinners will be crushed under the weight of their own deeds, and the worst part is that they chose this burden themselves by rejecting the truth.

This verse serves as a stark warning: every person will face the consequences of what they carry. The Qur'an, which was sent as a mercy and a light, becomes a witness against those who abandon it. Their sin is not merely a mistake—it is a heavy load that will doom them eternally.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine standing on the Day of Judgment with a burden so heavy that it crushes you—not a burden placed upon you by others, but one you willingly loaded onto your own shoulders through every act of disobedience, every moment of arrogance, and every rejection of Allah's guidance. How tragic it would be to realize that the very Book sent to lighten your load and guide your path has become the weight that sinks you into the Fire.

But here is the beautiful news: Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance before that Day arrives. Today, you can unload that burden through sincere tawbah (repentance), through turning back to the Qur'an, and through seeking Allah's forgiveness. The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who recites the Qur'an and acts upon it will be given a crown of light on the Day of Resurrection." Do not let the Qur'an become a burden against you—let it be the light that carries you to Paradise. The choice is yours, and the time is now.

Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur'an.
Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden,
[Abiding] eternally therein, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load -
The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed.
They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]."
