Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Ḥaṣīdan" (حَصِيدًا): Like harvested crops — cut down and reaped, referring to destruction and annihilation.
- "Khāmidīn" (خَامِدِينَ): Extinguished, lifeless, motionless — like embers that have lost all heat and glow.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the narrative of the destruction that befell the wicked nations who rejected the truth. When the punishment of Allah descended upon them, they began to cry out in despair and regret, acknowledging their wrongdoing and calling for their own destruction — saying, "Oh, woe to us! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers." This cry of anguish and admission of guilt became their constant refrain, repeated over and over as they witnessed the inevitable doom approaching.
Allah tells us that this remained their state — their repeated confession and self-condemnation — until He made them like harvested crops, completely cut down and still. They became like extinguished embers: lifeless, silent, and motionless. The very breath that once carried their cries of regret was silenced forever. Their voices that had once been raised in arrogance and denial of the truth were now stilled in death.
This vivid imagery serves as a powerful lesson for all who come after them. The same fate awaits those who persist in rejecting the message of truth and continue in their transgression. The harvest of destruction is reaped by those who sow the seeds of disbelief and oppression.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound scene. These nations had power, wealth, and strength — yet none of it could save them when the decree of Allah arrived. Their cries of regret came too late; their acknowledgment of wrongdoing could not reverse their fate.
This is a timeless warning for every generation, including ours. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as a mercy to all of humanity, and the Quran stands as a living miracle and guidance. Do not let arrogance or worldly distractions prevent you from embracing this truth. The door of repentance is open now — but it will not remain open forever.
Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given you the opportunity to turn to Him before the harvest comes. Do not wait until you are among those who cry out in regret when it is too late. Embrace faith, perform righteous deeds, and follow the guidance of the Quran — for that is the path to eternal success and salvation. Let the fate of these nations be a lesson, not a warning that goes unheeded.
