Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Baghtatan (بَغْتَةً): Suddenly, unexpectedly, without prior warning.
  • Fatabhatuhum (فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ): It will confound them, leaving them stunned and bewildered, overwhelmed by shock and terror.
  • Yunzarun (يُنظَرُونَ): They will be granted no respite, no delay, no second chance.

Tafsir (Explanation):

The Hour—the Day of Judgment—will not come to these disbelievers after they have been given prior notice or a chance to prepare. Rather, it will seize them all of a sudden, catching them completely off guard. In that overwhelming moment, their hearts will freeze with terror, and their minds will be utterly confounded. They will be left speechless, unable to think, act, or defend themselves.

At that instant, they will realize the truth they once mocked and denied, but it will be far too late. They will have no power to push back the punishment, no strength to avert the calamity, and no ability to bargain for more time. They will not be granted even a single moment to offer repentance, to make amends, or to utter a final plea. The door of mercy will have closed forever, and they will be left face-to-face with the consequences of their own arrogance and heedlessness.

This verse carries a profound and urgent lesson for every soul: the Hereafter is certain, but its timing is unknown. Do not live as though you have endless tomorrows. The wise heart does not postpone repentance, nor does it gamble with the mercy of Allah. Today, the door of forgiveness is wide open—so rush to it before the sudden Hour arrives and the door is shut forever. Let this warning awaken you from the slumber of negligence, and let it fill your heart with a sincere desire to return to your Lord while there is still time. For Allah, the Most Merciful, loves nothing more than the servant who turns back to Him before it is too late.

📜 Verse 38-42 — Al-Anbiya

And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"
If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not avert the Fire from their faces or from their backs and they will not be aided...
Rather, it will come to them unexpectedly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved.
And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
Say, "Who can protect you at night or by day from the Most Merciful?" But they are, from the remembrance of their Lord, turning away.
