Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "استُهْزِئَ": Mocked, ridiculed, or made fun of.
- "فَحَاقَ": Encompassed, surrounded, or overtook completely—meaning the punishment closed in on them from all sides.
- "يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ": They were mocking (i.e., ridiculing the warnings of punishment).
Tafsir (Explanation):
O noble Messenger, if your people mock you and reject your message, know that you are not the first to face such treatment. Many prophets before you were also mocked and ridiculed by their nations. They were called liars, sorcerers, and madmen—yet they remained patient and steadfast in delivering Allah's message.
But look at the outcome: the very punishment those mockers used to laugh at and dismiss as impossible—the torment of which the prophets warned them—came and encompassed them completely. It surrounded them from every side, and they could not escape it. What they once treated as a joke became their inescapable reality. Their mockery did not delay the punishment nor protect them from it; rather, it only sealed their fate.
This verse carries a profound lesson: mockery of divine truth never changes the truth. The disbelievers' laughter was temporary, but the consequence was eternal. The prophets, on the other hand, were patient and trusted in Allah's promise, and their victory came in this world and the Hereafter.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this: how many people today still mock the warnings of Allah—the reality of death, the Day of Judgment, and the consequences of sin? They laugh and say, "When will this punishment come?" But just as the previous nations learned, the promise of Allah is true, and His timing is perfect.
Do not let the mockery of others shake your faith. Instead, take comfort in knowing that you stand on the side of truth, just as the prophets did. The mockers may seem powerful now, but their end is sealed. And for you, dear believer, there is patience, reward, and ultimate success—both in this life and in the eternal life to come. So hold firm to your faith, for the final victory belongs to the righteous.
