Surah Al-Anbiya — Verse 98

In this powerful verse, Allah addresses the disbelievers and idolaters directly, delivering a decisive and awe-inspiring truth: "Indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship besides Allah are fuel for Hellfire; you will [all] enter it."

This means that the idols, false gods, and all beings—whether human or jinn—that were worshipped instead of Allah, and who accepted or were pleased with such worship, will be thrown into Hellfire as fuel. Just as wood feeds a raging fire, these false objects of worship and their worshippers will become the eternal kindling of Hell. The verse makes it clear that there is no escape: both the worshippers and the worshipped (when the worshipped consented to being deified) will enter the Fire together.

This is a severe warning that shatters any illusion of intercession or protection from false deities. The idols that people hoped would save them will not only fail to help, but they will be cast into the Fire alongside their devotees. The verse emphasizes the absolute Oneness of Allah and the utter worthlessness of any partner ascribed to Him.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a profound call to awaken the heart. Imagine placing your trust, your hopes, and your devotion into something that cannot even protect itself from the Fire—let alone protect you. How foolish it is to bow down to stone, wood, wealth, status, or even other human beings, when the Creator of all of that is the Only One worthy of worship!

Yet, the beauty of Islam is that Allah does not leave us in darkness. He warns us clearly so that we may turn back before it is too late. This warning is not meant to despair us, but to guide us. It is an invitation to purify our worship, to direct it solely to Allah—the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate—who forgives all sins for those who repent.

So let this verse be a turning point. Let it remind you that your heart should only bow to its Creator. The door of repentance is wide open, and Allah’s mercy is greater than any sin. Do not let your devotion be wasted on false gods that will only drag you into the Fire. Instead, embrace the pure worship of Allah, and you will find a peace that nothing in this world can offer, and a salvation that will protect you from the very fuel of Hell.
