Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- هَٰؤُلَاءِ (these): Refers to the false deities that the polytheists worshipped besides Allah, such as idols, stones, and statues.
- وَرَدُوهَا (they would have entered it): Meaning they would have approached and entered the Fire (Hell).
- خَالِدُونَ (abiding forever): Remaining eternally, never leaving nor dying.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah presents a decisive and irrefutable proof against the falsehood of shirk (associating partners with Allah). He says: If these idols and false gods that you worshipped, O polytheists, had truly been deities worthy of worship, they would not have entered Hellfire along with you. For a true deity is one who saves, protects, and delivers from punishment—not one who is itself punished alongside its worshippers. The very fact that both the worshippers and the worshipped will be cast into Hell proves beyond any doubt that these were never gods at all; they were merely created objects, powerless and helpless.
Then Allah states the final outcome: both the worshippers and their false deities will abide in Hell forever, with no escape and no end. This is a just recompense for those who took partners with Allah and led others astray.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: if those idols could not even save themselves from the Fire, how could they ever save you? How could a stone, a tree, or a statue—things that cannot hear, see, or speak—be worthy of your devotion? Allah, the Creator of all, is the Only One who deserves your worship. He is the One who guides, protects, and forgives. He calls you to His mercy and promises Paradise to those who worship Him alone.
Let this verse awaken your heart: the path of shirk leads only to eternal loss, while the path of tawheed (monotheism) leads to everlasting bliss. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent His messengers and revealed His books to guide you to the truth. Do not wait until it is too late. Turn to your Lord with sincerity, and He will forgive your sins and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow, where you will abide forever—not in punishment, but in peace and joy. This is the promise of the Most Merciful, and His promise is always true.
