Word Meanings:

  • Ansha'na (أَنشَأْنَا): We brought into existence, created and caused to grow.
  • Jannat (جَنَّاتٍ): Gardens and orchards, lush with vegetation.
  • Nakheel (نَّخِيلٍ): Date palms.
  • A'nab (أَعْنَابٍ): Grapevines.
  • Fawakih (فَوَاكِهُ): Fruits of various kinds, shapes, and colors.

Explanation of the Verse:

After mentioning the rain that descends from the sky, Allah now draws our attention to yet another profound blessing that follows from it. By means of this water, He causes to spring forth for you — O humanity — vast gardens filled with date palms and grapevines. These are not merely plants; they are sources of life, joy, and sustenance. Within these gardens, you find fruits in abundance — figs, pomegranates, apples, and countless others — each with its own unique taste, color, and benefit. And from these fruits, you eat and nourish yourselves.

The mention of date palms and grapevines specifically is significant, as these were the most cherished and essential fruits for the Arabs at the time of revelation. Yet the verse extends beyond them, indicating that within these gardens are "many fruits" — a comprehensive phrase that encompasses every kind of produce that brings delight and nourishment. The water that falls as rain, seemingly simple and ordinary, becomes the catalyst for this extraordinary abundance. It transforms barren land into thriving orchards, demonstrating Allah's power to bring life from death and provision from what appears to be nothing.

A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this magnificent scene. The same water that you drink and use daily is the very substance that Allah employs to create gardens of breathtaking beauty and productivity. Every date you taste, every grape you enjoy, every fruit that brings sweetness to your life — all of it traces back to this single, humble element: water. This is not a coincidence; it is a sign from your Lord, inviting you to recognize His boundless mercy and generosity.

When you sit beneath the shade of a palm tree and savor its fruit, remember that it is Allah who provided it for you. When you share grapes with your family and friends, know that this is a gift from the Most Merciful. These blessings are not merely for physical nourishment; they are spiritual reminders that the One who created these gardens from water is more than capable of providing for all your needs — in this life and the next. So let your heart overflow with gratitude, and let your tongue utter praise for the Provider who never forgets His servants. And know that the ultimate garden — Paradise — is far greater and more beautiful than any garden you have ever seen, prepared for those who believe and do righteous deeds.

📜 Verse 17-21 — Al-Mu'minun

And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.
And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.
And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat.
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
