Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-An'am: Livestock, specifically camels, cattle, and sheep.
  • 'Ibrah: A lesson, a profound example from which one draws wisdom and reflection.
  • Nusqeekum: We give you to drink.
  • Manafi': Benefits, utilities, and advantages.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O humanity, Allah draws your attention to the livestock—camels, cattle, and sheep—and presents them as a living sign and a profound lesson for you. Look at these creatures with contemplating eyes: how they are created, how they serve you, and how their very existence reflects the wisdom and mercy of their Creator. From within their bellies, Allah produces pure, fresh milk—a drink that flows effortlessly for you, wholesome and pleasant to those who drink it. This alone is a miracle of divine design: between blood and dung, He brings forth a clean, nourishing liquid that sustains life.

Beyond this, there are countless other benefits embedded in these animals for your daily life. You use their wool, fur, and hair for warmth and clothing; their skins for leather and shelter; and you ride upon their backs to travel across distant lands. And from their very flesh, you obtain your food—sustenance that strengthens your bodies and delights your palates.

So reflect, dear reader: Who but the Most Merciful could have orchestrated such a perfect system of provision? These animals do not create their own milk, nor do they offer themselves for your service by their own will. It is Allah—the All-Powerful, the All-Wise—who has subjected them to you as a trust and a blessing. Let this sight awaken gratitude in your heart, and let it draw you closer to the One who has given you all of this out of His boundless love. Indeed, in every sip of milk and every bite of meat, there is a reminder of His care for you. So praise Him, thank Him, and let your life be a reflection of that gratitude—for He is the One who deserves all worship and all praise.

And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.
And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat.
And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
And upon them and on ships you are carried.
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
