Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Ghammratihim (غَمْرَتِهِمْ): Derived from "ghamr," which refers to deep, overwhelming water that covers a person completely. Metaphorically, it signifies being submerged in ignorance, heedlessness, and confusion about the truth.
  • Hatta heen (حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ): "Until a time" — meaning a specified, appointed period known only to Allah, which is the arrival of divine punishment or the end of their worldly respite.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse addresses the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with a divine command of patience and reassurance. Allah instructs him to leave the disbelievers alone in their state of profound ignorance and bewilderment, where they are drowning in their own arrogance, stubbornness, and rejection of the truth. They are so deeply immersed in their misconceptions that they cannot see the light of guidance, much like a person submerged under turbulent waters cannot see the surface.

The phrase "until a time" refers to the appointed moment when Allah's decree will overtake them — whether that be their death, a punishment in this worldly life, or the ultimate reckoning on the Day of Judgment. This is not a call to abandon them permanently, but rather a reassurance that their matter is in Allah's hands, and that their respite is temporary. The verse carries a profound sense of divine justice: no wrongdoer is left unchecked, and every soul will face the consequences of its actions at the precise time Allah has ordained.

This command also serves as a lesson for the believers — that when people persist in rejecting the truth despite clear evidence, the believer's duty is to convey the message sincerely and then leave the outcome to Allah, trusting in His perfect wisdom and justice. It teaches us not to be consumed by anxiety over the rejection of others, for guidance is in Allah's hands alone, and His timing is always perfect.

A Call to Reflection:

How beautiful is this divine reassurance! The believer is never left to despair, for Allah knows the state of every heart and the fate of every soul. This verse invites us to place our complete trust in Allah, to remain steadfast in our mission, and to remember that no matter how deeply people may be lost in their heedlessness, Allah's justice will surely prevail. It also serves as a gentle warning to every soul: do not let the temporary pleasures of this world drown you in forgetfulness of your Creator, for the "appointed time" is nearer than you think. Let this be a moment of awakening — to turn back to Allah before that time arrives, and to live a life of purpose, gratitude, and submission to the One who knows all.

📜 Verse 52-56 — Al-Mu'minun

And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
But the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing.
So leave them in their confusion for a time.
Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children
Is [because] We hasten for them good things? Rather, they do not perceive.
