Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Anzalahu (أَنزَلَهُ): He sent it down — refers to the revelation of the Qur'an.
- Al-Sirr (السِّرَّ): The secret, the hidden, the unseen — that which is concealed from human perception.
- Ghafoor (غَفُورًا): Oft-Forgiving — One who forgives repeatedly and completely.
- Raheem (رَّحِيمًا): Most Merciful — One who bestows mercy and kindness upon His creation.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, respond to those who deny the Qur'an and claim it is nothing but human fabrication or the words of a poet — tell them clearly: The One who sent down this Qur'an is Allah Himself, the Lord of the heavens and the earth. He is the One whose knowledge encompasses every hidden secret in the heavens above and the earth below. Nothing escapes His awareness — not the whisper of a soul, not the fall of a leaf, not the movement of an atom in the darkest depths of the earth.
This Qur'an, with its unparalleled eloquence and profound wisdom, could not have come from any created being. It is a revelation from the Creator who knows all mysteries — for who else could know the unseen realities of the universe and the secrets of human hearts? The very fact that this Book challenges humanity to produce even a single chapter like it, and humanity has failed throughout history, is living proof of its divine origin.
Then Allah adds a beautiful note of hope and encouragement: Indeed, He is Oft-Forgiving and Most Merciful. He does not hasten to punish you for your denial and rejection. Rather, He gives you time, opens the door of repentance, and welcomes those who turn back to Him with open arms of forgiveness and mercy. His mercy precedes His wrath, and His forgiveness embraces all who sincerely seek it.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, contemplate the greatness of this verse! The Creator of the universe — the One who knows every secret hidden in the heavens and the earth — chose to reveal His final message to humanity. He did not leave us in darkness; He sent us light. He did not abandon us to confusion; He guided us with clarity.
And look at His beautiful attributes mentioned right here: He is Ghafoor (Oft-Forgiving) and Raheem (Most Merciful). Even while addressing those who rejected His Book, He reminds them of His mercy — inviting them, not threatening them. This is the beauty of Islam: a religion that combines truth with compassion, justice with mercy.
So if you have made mistakes in the past, if you have turned away from the Qur'an, if you have doubted or denied — know that the door of repentance is wide open. Your Lord knows your struggles, your secrets, your sincere intentions. He is waiting for you to return to Him. His mercy is greater than your sins, and His forgiveness is more expansive than your failures.
Come back to the Qur'an — let it illuminate your heart, guide your steps, and transform your life. For the One who sent it down knows exactly what you need, and He has placed in it the cure for every ailment of the soul.
