Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "أَخُوهُمْ" (their brother): Here it means brother in lineage and kinship, not in religion, as Prophet Nuh (Noah) was from among his people and shared their blood ties.
- "أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ" (will you not fear Allah?): This is a rhetorical question urging them to have Taqwa — to fear Allah, be conscious of Him, and guard themselves against His punishment by abandoning false worship.
Tafsir (Explanation):
The people of Nuh rejected the message of their prophet, and by doing so, they rejected all the messengers — because every messenger calls to the same core truth: the oneness of Allah and obedience to Him alone. In this verse, Allah reminds us of the moment when Nuh addressed his people with a heart full of compassion and brotherly concern. He said to them: "Will you not fear Allah? Will you not be conscious of Him and protect yourselves from His wrath by leaving the worship of idols and turning to Him alone?"
This was not a harsh or arrogant call — it was the call of a loving brother who wanted nothing but good for his people. He did not ask for wealth, status, or reward. His only concern was their salvation. He urged them to purify their faith, to make Taqwa their shield against the punishment of Allah, and to obey him in what he commanded — the worship of the One True God.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, look at the beauty of this call. Nuh, peace be upon him, was not a stranger to his people — he was their brother, their kin, someone they knew and trusted. He came to them with the most precious gift: the reminder of Allah. He did not force them, nor did he seek any worldly gain. He simply asked: "Will you not fear Allah?" — a question that penetrates the heart and awakens the conscience.
This is the essence of Islam: to live with awareness of Allah, to love Him, to fear His displeasure, and to worship Him alone. When you answer this call, you are not losing anything — you are gaining peace in this life and eternal success in the Hereafter. The door of repentance is always open, and the mercy of Allah is greater than any sin. So, let this verse be a reminder for you today: will you not fear Allah? Will you not return to Him with a sincere heart? Indeed, in that return lies your true success.
