Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Āyah (آيَةً): A sign, miracle, or profound lesson that points to the truth.
- Mu'minīn (مُؤْمِنِينَ): Believers—those who truly accept and submit to Allah with sincere faith.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah draws our attention to the magnificent event that unfolded when Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) and his followers were pursued by Pharaoh and his army. The sea split apart by Allah’s command, allowing Musa and the believers to cross safely on dry land, while the waters closed over Pharaoh and his forces, drowning them utterly. This was not a mere coincidence or natural phenomenon—it was a decisive, awe-inspiring miracle that demonstrated Allah’s absolute power and the truthfulness of Musa’s message.
Yet, despite this overwhelming sign, the verse states: *"And most of them were not believers."* The majority of Pharaoh’s people, even after witnessing such a clear and undeniable proof, remained stubborn in their disbelief. Their hearts were sealed by arrogance, pride, and the love of worldly power. They chose to follow their tyrant leader rather than submit to the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
This verse carries a profound lesson for all of humanity: the truth may be presented with the clearest evidence, but faith is a matter of the heart. Some people see miracles and still turn away, because their desires and egos blind them. It also serves as a comfort to believers throughout history—when you call people to the truth and they reject it, know that even the greatest prophets faced the same. The Prophet Musa, despite performing such a mighty miracle, saw most of his people refuse to believe. So do not despair when you encounter rejection; your duty is only to convey the message with sincerity, and guidance is entirely in Allah’s hands.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. The signs of Allah are all around you—in the creation of the heavens and the earth, in your own existence, in the turning of day and night, and in the stories of the past. These are not random events; they are messages from your Lord, calling you to reflect and believe. Do not be like those who saw the sea split before their very eyes and still turned away. Open your heart to the truth today, for the door of repentance is always open, and Allah’s mercy is greater than any sin. Embrace faith with sincerity, and you will find peace in this life and success in the Hereafter.
