Word Meanings:

  • Al-ʿAzīz (العزيز): The Almighty, the All-Powerful, the One who prevails over all things and is never defeated.
  • Al-Raḥīm (الرحيم): The Most Merciful, the One who showers His compassion and kindness upon His creation, especially upon the believers.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah addresses His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ directly, reassuring him and all believers with a timeless truth: "And indeed, your Lord — He is surely the Almighty, the Most Merciful."

This verse comes as a closing statement after the story of Prophet Musa (Moses) and Pharaoh, where Allah recounts how Pharaoh and his army were destroyed in the sea, while Musa and his followers were saved. It serves as a powerful reminder that the outcome of every struggle between truth and falsehood is determined by Allah alone.

The verse highlights two magnificent attributes of Allah:

First: Al-ʿAzīz (The Almighty) — His might is absolute and unmatched. Through His power, He destroyed the arrogant tyrants who rejected His messengers and oppressed His servants. No force on earth can resist His will. When He decrees a matter, it comes to pass without delay. This attribute gives the believers confidence that no matter how powerful their enemies may seem, Allah's power far surpasses all.

Second: Al-Raḥīm (The Most Merciful) — His mercy is boundless and encompasses all who turn to Him. Through His mercy, He saved Musa and his people from drowning, guided them through the sea, and granted them victory. His mercy is not limited to this world alone — it extends to the Hereafter, where He admits His believing servants into eternal Paradise.

This beautiful pairing of attributes teaches us a profound lesson: Allah's might is always accompanied by His mercy. He is not merely a God of punishment, but a God who combines His power with compassion. His severity is reserved for the obstinate wrongdoers, while His mercy embraces the sincere believers.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, let this verse fill your heart with hope and courage. No matter what trials you face in life — whether oppression, hardship, or the mockery of those who reject the truth — remember that your Lord is Al-ʿAzīz, the Almighty who never fails to support His righteous servants. And He is Al-Raḥīm, the Most Merciful, who never abandons those who place their trust in Him.

If you find yourself distant from Allah, know that His mercy is greater than your sins. Turn to Him in sincere repentance, and you will find Him ready to forgive and embrace you. The same mercy that parted the sea for Musa is available to you when you call upon Him with a truthful heart.

Let this verse be a source of strength in your daily life. When you feel weak, remember His might. When you feel hopeless, remember His mercy. And when you see evil prevailing temporarily, remember that the final victory belongs to Allah and His righteous servants — for He is indeed Al-ʿAzīz, Al-Raḥīm.

📜 Verse 66-70 — Ash-Shu'ara

Then We drowned the others.
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
And recite to them the news of Abraham,
When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?"
