Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Naza'na" (ونزعنا): We brought forth, extracted, or produced.
- "Shahidan" (شهيدًا): A witness; here, it refers to the Prophet sent to each nation who will testify against his people.
- "Hatū burhānakum" (هاتوا برهانكم): Bring your proof or evidence; a challenge to present a valid argument.
- "Ḍalla" (ضل): Disappeared, vanished, or went astray; meaning that the falsehood they clung to was lost from them.
- "Yaftarūn" (يفترون): They used to invent or fabricate lies, specifically regarding partners with Allah.
Interpretation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, Allah will bring forth from every nation a witness—their own Prophet—who will testify truthfully against them regarding their disbelief, their rejection of the messengers, and their association of partners with Allah. Then Allah will address those disbelieving nations with a decisive challenge: "Bring your proof!"—meaning, present your evidence and arguments that justify the false deities and partners you worshipped alongside Allah in the worldly life.
At that moment, all their excuses will collapse, and their false arguments will be rendered void. They will come to a stark and undeniable realization: that all truth, absolute and unquestionable, belongs to Allah alone. They will know with certainty that He is the only true deity, with no partner or associate. And everything they had fabricated—the false gods, the baseless claims, the invented intercessors—will vanish from them completely, offering no help, no intercession, and no escape. Their falsehood will not only fail to benefit them; it will become the very cause of their ruin, leading them straight into the blazing Fire.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a profound reminder of the ultimate accountability that awaits every soul. It shows us that no matter how many falsehoods we may convince ourselves of in this world, the Day of Truth will expose everything. The witnesses—our Prophets, our own limbs, and our deeds—will speak the truth, and every invented excuse will evaporate like mist under the sun.
Dear reader, why wait for that Day to recognize the truth? The truth is clear today: Allah is One, He has no partner, and His message of mercy through His final Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the path to eternal success. Embrace this truth now, before the day when every soul will stand alone and realize that the only proof that matters is the one that leads to Allah. Let this verse inspire you to submit to your Creator, to worship Him alone, and to live a life that will make that witness a source of joy for you—not a testimony against you. The doors of repentance and mercy are open today; do not let them close upon you tomorrow.
