Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Shuraka'i (شُرَكَائِي): My partners — referring to the false deities, idols, or beings that the polytheists associated with Allah in worship, claiming they were His partners.
- Taz'umun (تَزْعُمُونَ): You used to claim or assert — indicating a false and baseless assertion, not based on any truth or reality.
Tafsir (Explanation):
On that Day — the Day of Resurrection — Allah will call out to the polytheists who associated partners with Him in this worldly life, and He will say to them, in a tone of severe rebuke and humiliating exposure: "Where are those partners of Mine that you used to claim?" This is a rhetorical question that carries a profound meaning — it is not a question of seeking information, for Allah knows all things. Rather, it is a question of reproach and disgrace, meant to make them realize the utter futility of their false beliefs.
Allah repeats this kind of questioning in the Qur'an to emphasize the seriousness of the matter and to serve as a stern warning to humanity. This call will take place when everything that the Most Merciful promised through His messengers becomes manifest — when mercy is decreed for the believers and punishment for the disbelievers, when every tyrant is brought low, and all creation submits to the might of the Lord of all worlds. At that moment, the polytheists will be confronted with their own falsehood, and they will have no answer. Their so-called "partners" — idols, stones, prophets, angels, or jinn that they worshipped — will have vanished, unable to help themselves or others.
This verse strikes at the heart of shirk (polytheism) and exposes its emptiness. The very beings they revered and called upon in times of hardship, hoping for their intercession or favor, will be nowhere to be found when it matters most. What a devastating realization that will be — to call upon those you worshipped, only to find nothing but silence and absence!
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect deeply on this scene. The One who created you, who sustains you, who answers your prayers in the darkest hours — He is the only One worthy of your worship. Why would you turn to anything or anyone else when the Creator of the heavens and the earth is calling you to Himself? The polytheists of old placed their hopes in carved stones and imagined deities, and on that Day they will be left utterly humiliated. But you, O believer, have been given the greatest gift — the knowledge of the One True God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Do not let this precious treasure slip away. Hold firmly to the rope of Allah, worship Him alone, and you will never face that terrible question. Instead, you will be among those who are greeted with peace and honored with His pleasure. Let this verse be a reminder that true success lies in sincere devotion to Allah alone — no partners, no rivals, no intermediaries. He is Al-Wahid (The One), Al-Ahad (The Unique), and to Him alone belongs all worship.
