Explanation of the Verse:

When Our messengers—the angels sent to destroy the wicked people of Lot—came to him in the form of handsome young men, Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) was deeply distressed and grieved. He assumed they were human guests, and he knew all too well the corrupt and immoral behavior of his people, who had deviated from natural desire and pursued men instead of women. His heart tightened with fear for the safety of his guests, and he felt helpless, unable to protect them from the evil of his own community.

Seeing his anguish, the angels immediately reassured him: "Do not fear, and do not grieve." They told him that his people would never reach them with any harm, and that they had been sent by Allah with a mission. They then delivered the glad tidings: "Indeed, we will save you and your family—except your wife, who will remain behind and be destroyed along with the wicked."

This verse carries profound lessons for every believer. It shows the noble character of Prophet Lot—a man who, despite living among a corrupt people, maintained his purity and his sense of honor and hospitality. When he saw strangers in his town, his first instinct was to protect them, even at the risk of his own safety. This is the hallmark of true faith: caring for others and upholding moral values even in the most difficult circumstances.

It also teaches us that Allah never abandons His righteous servants. When the trials become severe, relief comes. The angels' words, "Do not fear, and do not grieve," echo through time as a divine reassurance to all who face hardship for the sake of righteousness. Allah sees your struggles, knows your worries, and will always provide a way out—just as He did for His Prophet Lot.

Moreover, the verse reminds us of the importance of choosing our companions and family wisely. The wife of Prophet Lot, despite living in the same house as a prophet, chose to side with the wicked and disbelieved in her husband's message. She was not saved by her proximity to righteousness; salvation comes only through personal faith and obedience to Allah. This is a powerful call to examine our own hearts and actions—for no one is saved by association alone, but by sincere belief and righteous deeds.

Let this verse inspire you to trust in Allah's protection, to uphold justice and hospitality, and to always stand firm on the side of truth, no matter how overwhelming the challenges may seem. For indeed, Allah's help is near, and His promise to the believers is true.

📜 Verse 31-35 — Al-'Ankabut

And when Our messengers came to Abraham with the good tidings, they said, "Indeed, we will destroy the people of that Lot's city. Indeed, its people have been wrongdoers."
[Abraham] said, "Indeed, within it is Lot." They said, "We are more knowing of who is within it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She is to be of those who remain behind."
And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was distressed for them and felt for them great discomfort. They said, "Fear not, nor grieve. Indeed, we will save you and your family, except your wife; she is to be of those who remain behind.
Indeed, we will bring down on the people of this city punishment from the sky because they have been defiantly disobedient."
And We have certainly left of it a sign as clear evidence for a people who use reason.
