Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Bima qaddamat aydikum" — Because of what your hands have sent forth, meaning the deeds and actions you performed in your worldly life.
- "Thallam" — A word emphasizing extreme, repeated injustice. The negation here means Allah is not unjust to anyone in the least.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is part of the dialogue that will take place on the Day of Judgment, when those who disbelieved and committed sins are cast into the Fire. They will be told: "This punishment you are experiencing is the direct result of what your own hands have sent forth — the sins you committed in the life of this world, whether in your words, your actions, or your beliefs. It is not something that was imposed upon you unjustly."
The verse then establishes a profound and comforting truth: Allah is never unjust to His servants. He does not punish anyone without cause, nor does He increase punishment beyond what is deserved. Rather, He is perfectly just and fair. He does not punish the righteous, and He does not overlook the wrongdoer's accountability without due process. Every soul reaps exactly what it has sown.
This statement carries a dual message: it is a warning to the wrongdoers that their fate is of their own making, and it is a reassurance to the believers that Allah's justice is absolute — He will never wrong anyone, not even by the weight of an atom. If there is any deficiency, it is from us; if there is any bounty, it is from Him.
A Da'wah Reflection:
How beautiful is this verse in teaching us about the nature of our Lord! It removes any doubt about Allah's fairness. When we face the consequences of our actions — whether in this world or the next — we cannot blame anyone but ourselves. Yet, in His infinite mercy, Allah does not treat us with strict justice alone; He multiplies our good deeds and forgives our sins out of His grace. So let this verse be a call to self-accountability: examine your deeds today, before the Day when your hands will testify against you. Turn back to Allah in sincere repentance, for He is the Most Merciful, and His door of forgiveness is open until the final hour. Do not let your own hands be the cause of your regret — rather, let them be the means of your eternal success by doing good and avoiding evil.
