Surah Al-Ahzab — Verse 21

Word Meanings:

• Uswah Hasanah (أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ): An excellent, noble example or role model to be followed.
• Yarjū Allāh (يَرْجُو اللَّهَ): Hopes for Allah’s reward, mercy, and forgiveness.
• Al-Yawm al-Ākhir (الْيَوْمَ الْآخِرِ): The Last Day — the Day of Resurrection and Reckoning.
• Dhakara Allāha kathīran (وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا): Remembers Allah abundantly and frequently in all circumstances.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Indeed, O believers, in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) you have the most perfect and beautiful example to follow. His words, his actions, his character, his patience, his courage, and his complete submission to Allah — all of these form a living model of guidance for every Muslim. He personally stood in the battlefield, endured hardship, and sacrificed everything for the sake of Allah, so how could anyone who claims faith hold back from following his path?

This excellent example, however, is truly embraced only by those who sincerely hope for Allah’s reward and mercy, and who long for the bliss of the Hereafter — not those who are attached only to this fleeting world. Such a person constantly remembers Allah — in times of ease and difficulty, in prosperity and adversity — with abundant remembrance, seeking His forgiveness and giving thanks in every situation.

So, dear believer, look at the life of the Prophet ﷺ as your mirror. In every trial you face, in every decision you make, and in every moment of your day, ask yourself: "What would the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do?" For whoever clings to his Sunnah and follows his example has indeed grasped the firmest handhold, and Allah has promised success in this life and salvation in the next. Let this verse be a call to you: rise above laziness and doubt, and strive to embody the character of the best of creation, for he is the mercy sent to all worlds, and in following him lies your ultimate victory and eternal happiness.
