Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Nadheer (نذير): A warner who alerts people to danger and warns them of the consequences of their actions.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse comes as a profound reassurance to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and a clarification of his noble mission. After describing the stark contrast between those who are blind to the truth and those who see it clearly, between the darkness of disbelief and the light of faith, Allah addresses His Messenger directly: "You are only a warner."

This means that the Prophet's role is not to force people into belief, nor to control their hearts, nor to make the deaf hear or the dead rise. His task is simply to deliver the warning — to alert humanity to the reality of Allah's punishment and the consequences of turning away from the truth. The guidance itself comes solely from Allah, Who grants understanding and acceptance to whom He wills.

The verse carries a beautiful lesson for every believer: your duty is to convey the message with sincerity and clarity, and then leave the results to Allah. You are not responsible for people's choices, nor should you grieve over their rejection. The Prophet is described here as a "nadheer" — one who warns with compassion, not with harshness; with clarity, not with ambiguity.

This title also highlights the mercy of Allah: He never leaves a people without a warner. Throughout history, every nation received a messenger who warned them of the consequences of their deeds. The warning is a gift — it gives people the chance to change course before it is too late.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse invites you to appreciate the mercy embedded in the very concept of warning. Imagine being told of a danger ahead on your path — would you not be grateful to the one who alerted you? Similarly, the warnings of the Quran and the Prophet are divine mercies, guiding you away from the fire of regret and toward eternal success. When you hear the call of truth, do not let your heart be like the dead that cannot hear. Open your ears, your mind, and your soul — for the warning has been delivered, and the choice is yours. Let this awareness draw you closer to your Creator, Who sent His messengers out of love for humanity, desiring nothing but your well-being in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 21-25 — Fatir

Nor are the shade and the heat,
And not equal are the living and the dead. Indeed, Allah causes to hear whom He wills, but you cannot make hear those in the graves.
You, [O Muhammad], are not but a warner.
Indeed, We have sent you with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And there was no nation but that there had passed within it a warner.
And if they deny you - then already have those before them denied. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs and written ordinances and with the enlightening Scripture.
