Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Al-Bayyinat (بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ): Clear proofs, miracles, and evident signs that demonstrate the truthfulness of the messengers.
- Az-Zubur (بِالزُّبُرِ): The scriptures or written books, such as the Psalms of David (Zabur) and the scrolls of Abraham (Suhuf Ibrahim), which contained guidance and wisdom.
- Al-Kitab al-Munir (الْكِتَابِ الْمُنِيرِ): The luminous, illuminating Book — referring to the Torah and the Gospel — that makes the path of truth and falsehood crystal clear to those who reflect upon it.
The Interpretation:
If your people, O Messenger, deny you and reject your call, then do not let this grieve your heart or weaken your resolve. For you are not an unprecedented phenomenon in the history of prophethood. The nations that came before them — such as ‘Ad, Thamud, and the people of Lot — likewise denied their messengers, even though those messengers came to them with undeniable miracles and clear signs that testified to their truthfulness. They brought them written scriptures containing wisdom and rulings, and they brought them the illuminating Book that shines brightly, distinguishing right from wrong and guiding humanity out of the darkness of ignorance into the light of faith.
So take comfort in this divine reassurance: the rejection you face is not due to any shortcoming in your message, but rather a reflection of the stubbornness of human hearts that have always resisted the truth. The messengers before you endured the same trials, yet they remained patient and steadfast, and ultimately Allah’s victory came to them. Their stories are a living testimony that truth, no matter how fiercely opposed, will always prevail in the end.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this profound lesson: the Qur’an is not telling us this story merely to inform us of the past, but to strengthen our hearts today. When you face mockery, rejection, or indifference in your own life — whether in your family, your workplace, or your community — remember that you are walking the same path that all the prophets walked. Their patience was not passive; it was an active trust in Allah’s promise. And look at the outcome: their names are honored forever, while those who opposed them have been forgotten in the dust of history.
This verse is an invitation to you to be among the patient ones, to hold firm to the truth with dignity and grace, and to know that Allah sees your struggle. The same Allah who supported His messengers with clear signs and luminous Books is with you today, guiding you with the final and most perfect Book — the Qur’an. So let your heart be at peace, and let your mission be one of love, wisdom, and beautiful patience. For the promise of Allah is true, and His help is near.
