Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Wa taraknā" (وَتَرَكْنَا): We left/established for him.
- "ʿAlayhi" (عَلَيْهِ): Upon him — meaning, upon Prophet Ilyās (Elias, peace be upon him).
- "Fī al-ākhirīn" (فِي الْآخِرِينَ): Among the later generations — i.e., the peoples who came after him.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) tells us that He left for His Prophet Ilyās (Elias, peace be upon him) a beautiful and lasting legacy: a praiseworthy mention and a noble reputation among all the nations that came after him. This is a divine honor — that his name would be spoken with respect, his memory cherished, and his mission remembered with gratitude across generations until the end of time. This is not merely a historical record, but a living testimony of his sincerity and devotion.
This verse comes as part of a series of verses in which Allah recounts the stories of His chosen prophets and the reward He bestowed upon them. Just as He honored Ilyās with this enduring praise, He honors all His righteous servants who sincerely obey Him and dedicate their lives to His cause. The "salām" (peace) and "good praise" mentioned in the surrounding verses are a gift from Allah — a sign of His pleasure and acceptance.
This teaches us a profound lesson: the true legacy of a believer is not wealth, status, or worldly achievements, but the righteous deeds that leave a beautiful imprint on the hearts of people. When a person lives for Allah, Allah makes their mention beautiful among creation, even after they depart from this world.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this divine promise: Allah preserves the good name of His sincere servants. If you strive to live a life of faith, honesty, and service to humanity — seeking only Allah's pleasure — then know that your Lord will not let your efforts go to waste. He may not make you famous in the worldly sense, but He will plant love for you in the hearts of believers, and your name will be mentioned with honor in the gatherings of the righteous. This is a treasure far greater than any fleeting fame. So, let this verse inspire you to be among those who leave a beautiful legacy — not of monuments and titles, but of faith, character, and goodness that echoes through time. And remember, the greatest reward is not the praise of people, but the pleasure of Allah, which is eternal and everlasting.
