Tafsir (Explanation):
After the people of Paradise have settled into their eternal bliss, enjoying its gardens, rivers, and delights, the scene shifts to a beautiful moment of social connection. They turn to one another, facing each other directly, and begin to converse and ask questions. This is not a conversation of need or worry — for in Paradise there is no fear, no grief, and no want — but rather a conversation of joy, reflection, and gratitude.
They ask one another about their past lives in the world: what they endured, the hardships they faced, the trials they overcame, and how they remained patient and steadfast upon faith. They also marvel at what Allah has granted them in Paradise — the honor, the rewards, and the everlasting bliss that they now enjoy. This mutual questioning is described as part of the complete delight and intimacy of Paradise; it is a sign of perfect comfort, where hearts are at peace, and where even conversation becomes a source of pleasure and closeness.
This verse highlights that the blessings of Paradise are not only physical — the fruits, the rivers, the beautiful dwellings — but also social and spiritual. The people of Paradise will enjoy one another's company in an atmosphere of pure love, free from envy, malice, or any negative feeling. Their questions are filled with wonder and appreciation for what Allah has done for them, which increases their joy and gratitude.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Imagine a gathering where every word spoken brings happiness, where every question asked deepens love, and where every memory shared increases gratitude. That is the reality of Paradise — a place where even the simplest act of turning to a friend and asking, "How did you reach this honor?" becomes a moment of pure bliss. This verse invites us to reflect: if such joy comes from conversation in Paradise, then how great must the ultimate reward be? It also reminds us that the friendships we build on faith in this world, the bonds of love for Allah's sake, will continue and flourish in the Hereafter. So let us strive to be among those who will enjoy this eternal fellowship — by loving one another for Allah, by supporting each other in goodness, and by keeping our hearts attached to the promise of His Paradise. May Allah make us among the people of this blessed conversation, Ameen.
