Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Sayḥah (صَيْحَةً): A single, overwhelming blast or shout — here referring to the piercing trumpet-blast (the Sur) that will annihilate creation.
- Fawāq (فَوَاقٍ): Any interval, respite, delay, or chance to return or recover — even the briefest pause.
Explanation of the Verse:
These disbelievers — the polytheists of Makkah who rejected the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and mocked the promise of resurrection — are not waiting for anything except a single, terrifying blast. It will come suddenly and seize them all at once, leaving no room for a moment’s pause, no opportunity to turn back, no respite to repent or escape. This is the first trumpet-blast that will strike the heavens and the earth, bringing death and destruction to every living soul. There will be no second chance, no delay, no negotiation — just the inevitable decree of Allah, which arrives in the blink of an eye.
This verse is a profound reminder that the punishment of Allah, when it comes, is swift and absolute. Those who persist in disbelief and arrogance are merely delaying the inevitable. They may think they have time, but the Hour is closer than they imagine — closer than the very breath they take.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, do not be like those who wait for the blast while it is already drawing near. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given you this very moment — a moment of life, of breath, of choice — to turn to Him. The door of repentance is open now, but it will not remain open forever. The trumpet will sound, and there will be no fawāq — no pause, no second chance. So hasten to the mercy of your Lord before that Day arrives. Embrace Islam, purify your heart, and live a life that pleases Allah. For the One who created you, who sustains you, and who has sent you this warning — He loves you more than a mother loves her child, and He yearns for your return to Him. Do not let the fleeting pleasures of this world deceive you. The true success lies in the Hereafter, and the path to it is open before you right now. Take it, and you will never regret it.
