Tafsir (Interpretation):
In this verse, Allah reminds us of the great favors He bestowed upon His Prophet and servant, Prophet Dāwūd (David, peace be upon him). Allah says: "And We strengthened his kingdom" — meaning We solidified his authority, granted him awe and reverence in the hearts of people, gave him victory over his enemies, and supported him with power and might, so that his rule was firm and unshakable. This was not merely worldly power, but a divinely ordained authority established upon justice and truth.
Then Allah says: "And We gave him wisdom" — which includes prophethood, deep understanding of religion, and the ability to make correct decisions in all matters. Wisdom is the light by which a servant distinguishes between truth and falsehood, and it is a gift that elevates its bearer to the highest ranks of righteousness.
And "decisive speech" (faṣl al-khiṭāb) refers to the ability to judge between people with fairness, to articulate clear and conclusive arguments, and to possess eloquence in speech and precision in ruling. This was a special blessing from Allah to Dāwūd, enabling him to resolve disputes with justice and clarity, leaving no ambiguity in his judgments.
This verse carries a profound lesson for us: true strength lies not in mere numbers or wealth, but in the strength that Allah grants to His righteous servants — strength of faith, of justice, and of wisdom. When a leader or a believer is granted these qualities, their influence becomes blessed and enduring. It also teaches us to seek wisdom and clarity in our own speech and actions, for these are gifts from Allah that bring benefit to individuals and societies alike. Let us reflect on how Allah elevates those who uphold truth and justice, and let us strive to embody these noble qualities in our daily lives, trusting that Allah, the All-Powerful, grants His favors to whom He wills.
