Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Amattanā ithnatayni" — You caused us to die twice.
  • "Ahyaytanā ithnatayni" — You gave us life twice.
  • "Fa'tarafnā bidhunūbinā" — So we confess our sins.
  • "Hal ilā khurūjin min sabīl" — Is there any way out (from the Fire)?

Tafsir (Explanation):

On the Day of Judgment, when the disbelievers are cast into the Fire and witness its horrors with their own eyes, they will cry out to their Lord in utter despair and regret, saying: *"Our Lord, You caused us to die twice and gave us life twice."*

The first death refers to their state before they were brought into existence — when they were nothing, mere drops in the loins of their fathers, lifeless and uncreated. Then You gave them life the first time when they were born into this world, breathing, moving, and living upon the earth. Then You caused them to die the second time when their appointed terms in this worldly life came to an end. And finally, You gave them life a second time when You resurrected them from their graves to stand before You for judgment.

At that moment, overwhelmed by the undeniable truth of the resurrection they once denied, they will confess: *"We admit our sins"* — acknowledging their disbelief, their rejection of the messengers, and their disobedience to their Lord. But this confession comes far too late. It is not a confession of sincere repentance; it is a confession born of desperation, when no excuse remains and no denial can help them.

Then they will plead: *"Is there any way out?"* — meaning, is there any path, any means, any chance for us to escape this Fire and return to the worldly life, so that we may do righteous deeds and obey You instead of disobeying You? They long for a second chance, but the door of return has been sealed forever.

This verse teaches us a profound lesson: the time for action is now, in this life, before the Day when regrets will be of no avail. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance wide for us in this world. He calls us to turn back to Him at any moment, at any hour, no matter how great our sins may be. But that door will close at death, and certainly after the resurrection.

So seize this precious opportunity, dear reader! Do not wait until you stand before your Lord with a confession that cannot save you. Turn to Allah today, in humility and sincerity, and He will forgive you, guide you, and grant you a way out of every difficulty — for His mercy encompasses all things, and His door remains open until the final moment of your life.

📜 Verse 9-13 — Ghafir

And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment."
Indeed, those who disbelieve will be addressed, "The hatred of Allah for you was [even] greater than your hatred of yourselves [this Day in Hell] when you were invited to faith, but you refused."
They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice, and we have confessed our sins. So is there to an exit any way?"
[They will be told], "That is because, when Allah was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allah, the Most High, the Grand."
It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except he who turns back [in repentance].
