Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Maqt (مَقْت): Intense hatred, abhorrence, or extreme displeasure directed toward someone due to their actions. It signifies a deep and profound aversion.
- Yunādawna (يُنَادَوْنَ): They will be called out to or addressed, specifically by the keepers of Hell.
- Idh (إِذْ): When, referring to a past time in the worldly life.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, when those who rejected faith are cast into the Fire and witness the terrifying reality of their deeds and the punishment that awaits them, they will be filled with intense self-hatred and self-reproach. They will curse themselves for the choices they made and the opportunities they squandered. At that very moment, the keepers of Hell will call out to them with a profound truth that cuts deeper than their own regret: "The hatred of Allah for you is far greater than your hatred for yourselves right now."
Why is this so? Because in the worldly life, when the messengers and the callers to truth invited them to believe in Allah alone, to worship Him sincerely, and to follow His guidance, they turned away in arrogance and stubbornness. They were called to the path of salvation, yet they chose disbelief. They were invited to light, yet they preferred darkness. Their rejection was not out of ignorance, but out of defiance and pride.
So, while they now despise themselves for the consequences they face, Allah's displeasure with them is even more immense—because He gave them countless chances, sent them guidance, and showed them signs, yet they persisted in their ingratitude and rejection. Their self-hatred is born of fear and regret; Allah's hatred is born of His perfect justice against those who knowingly rejected His mercy.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse is a powerful reminder for every soul that still has breath in this world. It tells us that the door of repentance is open now—that we are not yet in that place of regret. Today, when you hear the call to faith, respond with your heart. When you are invited to prayer, to goodness, and to the worship of Allah alone, do not delay. Do not let yourself become one of those who will be addressed with this painful rebuke.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than one of you who finds his lost camel in a barren desert." (Bukhari and Muslim). So, turn to Allah now, before that Day comes when your own self-hatred will be overshadowed by the knowledge of Allah's displeasure. Embrace faith, love Allah, and follow His messengers—so that you may be among those who are called to Paradise with honor, not to the Fire with disgrace.
