Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- تُؤْفَكُونَ — "You are turned away" or "deluded." It means: how are you being diverted and turned aside from the truth after it has become clear to you?
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is a profound declaration that strikes at the very heart of faith. Allah is addressing all of humanity, saying: "That is Allah, your Lord." The One who has showered you with countless blessings — who gave you life, health, provision, sight, hearing, and intellect — He alone is your true Lord and Master. He is the Creator of everything that exists, from the tiniest atom to the vastest galaxies, from the drop of rain to the towering mountains. Nothing comes into being without His will, and nothing is sustained except by His power.
There is no deity worthy of worship except Him alone. No idol, no statue, no prophet, no saint, no celestial body, no force of nature — none of these deserve even a fraction of your devotion. All worship, all prayer, all submission, all love, and all hope must be directed exclusively to the One who created you and everything around you.
Then comes the striking rhetorical question: "So how are you turned away?" After all these clear evidences, after the signs of His creation are visible in every direction, how can anyone still be deceived into worshipping false gods? How can the mind that thinks, the heart that feels, and the soul that yearns be diverted from its true Creator to lifeless stones and powerless beings?
This is a call to awaken the innate nature (fitrah) within every human being. Deep down, every soul knows its Creator, but distractions, desires, and false traditions can veil this truth. The verse invites you to reflect: if Allah alone created you, sustains you, and blesses you, then why would you turn to anyone else?
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and look around you. The air you breathe, the heartbeat you never command, the sun that rises each day, the earth that provides your food — all of this is the work of One Creator. He has never abandoned you, even when you forgot Him. He continues to provide for you, even when you disobey Him. His mercy reaches you before you even ask.
So why turn away? Why place your hopes in creations that cannot even protect themselves? Come back to your Lord, the One who knows you better than you know yourself. He is waiting for you with open arms of mercy. Every prayer you offer, every step you take towards Him, He comes running towards you. This is the beauty of Islam — it calls you back to your natural state, to the worship of the One who truly deserves it, and to a life of peace and purpose under His guidance.
