Word Meanings:
- لَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمُ – "Do not let him turn you away" – meaning, do not allow him to divert or deflect you.
- الشَّيْطَانُ – Satan, the accursed enemy of mankind.
- عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ – "A clear, manifest enemy" – one whose enmity is evident and undeniable.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, in His infinite mercy and care for His believing servants, issues a profound warning: "And do not let Satan turn you away." This is a direct address to every believer, commanding us to be vigilant and steadfast, so that the whisperings of Satan do not pull us from the path of obedience to Allah—whether in what He has commanded us to do or what He has forbidden us from. Satan’s methods are subtle: he beautifies sin, delays repentance, sows doubt, and stirs desires until a person drifts far from the straight path.
The verse then gives the reason for this stern warning: "Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy." This is not a hidden or ambiguous hostility—Satan’s enmity toward Adam and his descendants is ancient, open, and relentless. He swore by Allah’s might to mislead us (see Surah Sad, 38:82), and he has no goal other than to see us fail in this life and the next. His enmity is so clear that no believer should ever trust him, bargain with him, or follow his footsteps.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, when you know your enemy clearly, you prepare against him. Satan does not come to you with a loud voice; he comes through your own inclinations, through laziness in prayer, through hesitation in truth, through love of this world at the expense of the Hereafter. But Allah has not left you defenseless—He has given you the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the weapon of *dhikr* (remembrance). He has promised that those who put their trust in Him will not be overcome.
So hold firmly to the rope of Allah, seek refuge in Him from the accursed Satan, and remember that every step you take toward Allah is a step away from your enemy. The pleasure of Allah, the sweetness of faith, and the gardens of Paradise are worth far more than any fleeting temptation Satan can offer. Do not let him rob you of your greatest treasure—your connection with your Lord. For indeed, Allah is with those who are mindful of Him, and He loves those who strive against their enemy with patience and certainty.
