Word Meanings:

  • Yā ʿibād (يَا عِبَادِ): "O My servants" — an address of honor and closeness from Allah to His righteous servants.
  • Lā khawf (لَا خَوْفٌ): "No fear" — meaning no dread of future punishment or calamity.
  • ʿAlaykum (عَلَيْكُمُ): "Upon you" — emphasizing that fear is completely removed from them.
  • Al-yawm (الْيَوْمَ): "Today" — referring to the Day of Resurrection.
  • Lā antum taḥzanūn (وَلَا أَنتُمْ تَحْزَنُونَ): "Nor will you grieve" — no sadness over what was missed or lost in the worldly life.

Explanation of the Verse:

On the Day of Resurrection, when the hearts of all creation will be seized with terror and every soul will be consumed by anxiety over its fate, Allah — in His infinite mercy and generosity — will turn to His righteous servants with a greeting that carries the ultimate reassurance. He will say to them: "O My servants!" — a phrase that alone fills the heart with warmth, for it is the Lord of the Worlds calling them His own, not as distant subjects but as beloved servants who are under His special care.

Then comes the glad tidings: "No fear shall be upon you today, nor shall you grieve." This is a comprehensive promise that removes both the anxiety of the future and the sorrow of the past. They will not fear what lies ahead — no punishment, no reckoning, no hardship, no separation from their Lord. And they will not grieve over what they left behind in the worldly life — the wealth they gave in charity, the pleasures they sacrificed for His sake, the sleep they lost in prayer, the hunger they endured in fasting, and every comfort they abandoned in obedience to Him. All of that will be replaced with something far greater: eternal bliss, everlasting contentment, and the pleasure of their Lord, which is the greatest reward of all.

This verse is a living proof of Allah's justice and mercy. He does not forget the deeds of His servants, nor does He let a single act of righteousness go to waste. The believer who struggled in this world with patience and faith will find that every moment of hardship was but a fleeting shadow compared to the everlasting joy that awaits him.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, imagine this scene: the entire creation standing before Allah, trembling in awe, and then you hear your own name being called with the words: "O My servant, do not fear, do not grieve." What greater honor could there be? This is not a reward for the rich or the powerful, but for those who purified their hearts, believed in their Lord, and lived their lives in obedience to Him.

So let this verse be a source of hope and motivation for you. No matter how many sins you have committed in the past, the door of repentance is open. No matter how difficult your circumstances may be, Allah's mercy is greater. Strive to be among those whom Allah will address with this beautiful greeting on that Day. Pray, give charity, be kind to others, and hold firmly to the rope of Allah. For the one who lives as a true servant of Allah in this world will be honored as His beloved servant in the Hereafter.

May Allah make us all among those who hear: "O My servants, no fear shall be upon you today, nor shall you grieve."

Are they waiting except for the Hour to come upon them suddenly while they perceive not?

[You] who believed in Our verses and were Muslims.
