Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tudammiru: Destroys, annihilates, or wrecks completely.
  • Bi-amri Rabbiha: By the command of its Lord — meaning by Allah’s will, decree, and permission.
  • Masakinuhum: Their dwellings, homes, or places of residence.
  • Al-Mujrimin: The criminals, the guilty ones who persist in sin and disbelief.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the story of the people of ‘Ad and the punishment that befell them. They had rejected the message of their Prophet Hud (peace be upon him), persisted in their arrogance and idolatry, and refused to submit to the One True God. So Allah sent upon them a furious, destructive wind — a punishment unlike anything they had ever witnessed.

That wind, by the command of its Lord, destroyed everything it passed over. It tore through their land, their livestock, their wealth, and their very bodies — leaving nothing but ruin in its wake. Yet, remarkably, it did not harm the believers who had followed Hud; it was precise and controlled, striking only what Allah had ordained to be destroyed. This shows that the punishment was not random or chaotic, but a deliberate act of divine justice, carried out with perfect wisdom.

When the morning came, the people of ‘Ad were gone. Their homes stood empty, silent witnesses to their former existence. Nothing remained of them except their empty dwellings — a haunting reminder of their pride and their end. They had once boasted of their strength and their grand buildings, but neither their power nor their structures could protect them from the decree of Allah.

Then the verse concludes with a powerful, universal principle: "Thus do We recompense the criminal people." This is not merely a historical account — it is a timeless warning. Allah’s justice is certain. Those who persist in wrongdoing, who reject His signs, and who continue in their transgression will face a similar fate. The punishment may take different forms in different times, but the principle remains unchanged: crime leads to ruin, and justice will always prevail.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this scene. A mighty nation, blessed with strength, resources, and prosperity — reduced to nothing in a single night. Their homes remained, but their voices were silenced forever. What good was their power? What benefit were their achievements? They had everything except faith, and so they lost everything.

This story is not just about the past — it is a mirror for the present. How many nations today boast of their technology, their armies, and their wealth, yet turn away from their Creator? How many individuals build their lives on arrogance and forget the One who gave them everything?

The lesson is clear: true success lies not in what we build, but in how we submit to Allah. The wind that destroyed ‘Ad was sent by the command of Allah — and the same Allah who controls the wind controls every force in this universe. He is the One who gives life and takes it away, who raises nations and brings them down.

So, my dear reader, take heed. Do not let your strength, your wealth, or your intelligence make you forget your Lord. Humble yourself before Him, submit to His will, and follow His guidance. For the same justice that destroyed the criminals of ‘Ad is still active today — and the same mercy that saved the believers of that time is still available to those who turn to Allah with sincere hearts.

The doors of repentance are open. The path of salvation is clear. Do not wait until the wind of destruction comes — come to Allah now, before it is too late.

📜 Verse 23-27 — Al-Ahqaf

He said, "Knowledge [of its time] is only with Allah, and I convey to you that with which I was sent; but I see you [to be] a people behaving ignorantly."
And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This is a cloud bringing us rain!" Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment,
Destroying everything by command of its Lord. And they became so that nothing was seen [of them] except their dwellings. Thus do We recompense the criminal people.
And We had certainly established them in such as We have not established you, and We made for them hearing and vision and hearts. But their hearing and vision and hearts availed them not from anything [of the punishment] when they were [continually] rejecting the signs of Allah; and they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
And We have already destroyed what surrounds you of [those] cities, and We have diversified the signs [or verses] that perhaps they might return [from disbelief].
