Word Meanings:

  • Askhata Allah (what angered Allah): Actions that provoke Allah's displeasure and wrath, such as disobedience, hypocrisy, and following Satan.
  • Ridwanahu (His pleasure): The contentment and approval of Allah, attained through faith, obedience, and sincere deeds.
  • Ahbata (He rendered void): To nullify, cancel, or wipe out the reward of deeds, leaving them without benefit or acceptance.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse reveals the profound reason behind the severe punishment and disgrace that befell the hypocrites and those who opposed the truth. Their suffering was not arbitrary—it was the direct consequence of their own choices and hearts. They deliberately followed paths that incurred Allah's wrath: embracing disbelief, hypocrisy, and hostility toward Allah and His Messenger, and concealing the truth they knew. At the same time, they despised and detested what brings Allah's pleasure—faith in Him, obedience to His commands, and righteous deeds such as charity, maintaining family ties, and striving in His cause. Because their hearts turned away from what pleases Allah and clung to what angers Him, Allah rendered their deeds utterly void. Their acts of charity, kindness, or any apparent good were stripped of reward, as they were built on a corrupted foundation of disbelief and ill intent. This is a powerful reminder that the acceptance of deeds depends not only on their outward form but on the faith and sincerity of the heart.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and ponder this profound truth: our deeds are weighed by the state of our hearts. A person may perform many outward acts, yet if their heart is attached to what displeases Allah and averse to His pleasure, all efforts crumble into nothing. How beautiful is the path of those who seek Allah's pleasure above all else! They find peace in obedience, joy in righteousness, and hope in His mercy. Let this verse inspire you to purify your intentions, love what Allah loves, and strive for His pleasure in every moment. For when Allah is pleased with you, He transforms your deeds into treasures that endure forever, and His reward is beyond imagination. Do not let your efforts be wasted—anchor them in faith, sincerity, and love for your Creator. The door of repentance is always open; turn to Him today, and He will turn your void deeds into radiant lights.

📜 Verse 26-30 — Muhammad

That is because they said to those who disliked what Allah sent down, "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allah knows what they conceal.
Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs?
That is because they followed what angered Allah and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds.
Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allah would never expose their [feelings of] hatred?
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allah knows your deeds.
