Word Meanings:
- Ar-Razzaq (الرَّزَّاقُ): The Supreme Provider, the One who grants sustenance and provisions to all of His creation without any effort from them.
- Dhul-Quwwah (ذُو الْقُوَّةِ): The Possessor of absolute power and might.
- Al-Mateen (الْمَتِينُ): The Firm, the Strong — whose strength is perfect, unyielding, and never diminishes.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Exalted, declares in this verse that He alone is the true Provider — Ar-Razzaq — the One who guarantees the sustenance of every living being. Every creature in the heavens and the earth, from the smallest ant to the largest whale, depends entirely on His provision. He is the One who feeds, nourishes, and sustains all of creation without needing any assistance, and His provision never runs out.
He is also Dhul-Quwwah Al-Mateen — the Possessor of absolute, unbreakable strength. His power is perfect and complete; nothing in existence can overcome Him, resist His will, or escape His dominion. All of creation — the jinn, mankind, angels, and every force in the universe — submits to His might. No tyrant can defy Him, no oppressor can escape His grasp, and no power on earth can stand against His decree.
The profound message here is one of reassurance and liberation. When you truly understand that Allah is the Provider and the Possessor of all strength, your heart is freed from the fear of creation and from dependence on anyone other than Him. You realize that your sustenance is already guaranteed by the Most Merciful, and that no one can withhold what He has decreed for you, nor can anyone give you what He has not written for you.
This verse also carries a gentle call to action: since Allah is the One who provides for you, and He is the All-Strong who needs nothing from you, then direct your efforts toward what He has commanded you. Worship Him, obey Him, and seek His pleasure — for He is the One who sustains you, and He is the One whose strength never fails. In His care, you find true security; in His provision, you find true peace; and in His power, you find the ultimate refuge.
