Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ad-Deen (الدين): Here it means the Reckoning, the Judgment, and the Retribution — the full account of deeds that will take place on the Day of Resurrection.
  • La-Wāqi‘ (لواقع): Absolutely certain, inevitably occurring, and bound to happen without any doubt or delay.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this profound verse, Allah the Almighty takes a solemn oath by His mighty creations — the winds that stir up dust, the clouds that carry heavy loads of water, the ships that sail smoothly through the seas, and the angels who distribute Allah’s commands throughout the universe — and then declares with absolute certainty: *“And indeed, the Reckoning is surely bound to occur.”*

This means that the Day of Judgment, the accounting of every soul’s deeds, and the just recompense for all actions — whether good or evil — is an inevitable reality that will undoubtedly take place. There is no escape from it, no postponement, and no doubt whatsoever in its coming. Just as the winds blow, the clouds pour rain, the ships sail, and the angels carry out their duties — all by Allah’s perfect command — so too will the Day of Reckoning arrive by His decree.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that this worldly life is not the final chapter. Every breath you take, every word you speak, every deed you perform — all of it is being recorded and will be brought forth on a Day when nothing remains hidden. The certainty of this promise should fill the believer’s heart with both hope and reverence: hope for the immense mercy and reward that awaits the righteous, and reverence that inspires one to live a life of purpose, sincerity, and devotion to Allah.

Dear reader, let this truth settle deep within your heart: the justice of Allah is absolute, and His promise is true. No wrong will go unaddressed, and no good will be wasted. So hasten towards what pleases your Lord, seize the opportunity of today before tomorrow, and let the certainty of this Reckoning transform your life into one of conscious worship, kindness, and steadfast faith. For indeed, the One who created the winds and the clouds and the seas is fully capable of bringing every soul back to account — and He has promised that He will.
