Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tūʿadūn (تُوعَدُونَ): What you are promised — referring to the Resurrection, the Reckoning, and the recompense of deeds, whether reward or punishment.
  • Ṣādiq (صَادِق): True, certain, and inevitable — a promise that will undoubtedly come to pass.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) affirms with absolute certainty that everything He has promised His servants — the Resurrection after death, the gathering of all creation, the precise reckoning of every deed, and the final recompense of reward for the obedient and punishment for the disobedient — is an undeniable truth. There is no doubt about it, no room for skepticism, and no possibility of it being delayed or altered.

The verse begins with the emphatic particle *innamā* (إِنَّمَا), which restricts and affirms, followed by the oath that precedes it in the earlier verses, where Allah swears by the winds that scatter dust, the clouds that carry heavy rain, the ships that glide with ease, and the angels that distribute His commands. These mighty cosmic phenomena serve as witnesses to the certainty of this promise. Just as these natural occurrences are real and observable, so too is the promise of Allah real and inevitable.

This is a direct address to all of humanity: O people, the Day you have been warned about is not a myth or a distant fantasy. It is a certain reality that will overtake you. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who set the winds in motion and the clouds in their course, is fully capable of bringing you back to life and holding you accountable for your actions.

A Daʿwah Reflection:

This verse fills the believer’s heart with tranquility and hope, for it confirms that justice will prevail. No good deed will be lost, and no wrong will go unaddressed. It is a call to live with purpose and awareness, knowing that this worldly life is not the end. The promise of Allah is true, and His word is never broken. Let this certainty motivate you to draw closer to Him, to seek His pleasure, and to prepare for the meeting with Him. For the one who believes in this truth, life becomes a journey of meaningful action, and death becomes a gateway to eternal bliss — a promise that is more certain than the sunrise you witness each day.
