Surah Al-Qamar — Verse 23

Their arrogance led them to ask: "Shall we follow a single human being from among us? Then we would surely be in error and madness!" They deemed it beneath their dignity to submit to a mortal like themselves, failing to recognize that prophethood is a divine choice, not a matter of social status or tribal prestige. Their rejection was not born of ignorance but of stubborn pride, as they had witnessed the she-camel emerge from the rock as a clear sign, yet they still chose to disbelieve.
