Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • لَمَجْمُوعُونَ (la-majmoo'oon): Surely gathered/assembled together.
  • مِيقَاتِ (meeqat): An appointed time or fixed term.
  • يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ (yawmin ma'loom): A known day — i.e., the Day of Resurrection.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse comes as a continuation of the previous one, where Allah Almighty addresses the deniers of the Resurrection who question how the earlier and later generations could ever be brought back to life. Here, Allah responds with an emphative oath-like affirmation: "They will surely be gathered together at the appointed time of a known Day."

The meaning is that all of humanity — from the very first human being to the last one to walk this earth — will be assembled in one place, at one moment, on the Day of Judgment. That day is not unknown or random; it is precisely fixed in Allah's eternal knowledge and decree. No one will be missed, no one will be late, and no one will escape. The gathering is certain and unavoidable, for it is the day of reckoning and recompense — the day when every soul will be held accountable for what it did in this worldly life.

This verse instills a profound sense of certainty in the believer's heart: that this life is not the end, and that justice will inevitably prevail. The One who created humanity from nothing is fully capable of bringing them back and gathering them together, even if their bones have turned to dust and scattered across the earth.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder this truth: every person who has ever lived, every soul that has ever breathed, will stand before its Lord on that known Day. There will be no confusion, no excuses, no delays. The appointment is set, and the meeting is certain. So let this reality awaken your heart today — before that Day arrives — and turn to Allah in sincere repentance and good deeds. For the wise person is the one who prepares for that gathering while there is still time, and the successful one is the one who meets his Lord with a pure heart and a record filled with righteousness. Do not let the distractions of this world make you forget that appointment — for it is closer to you than you think.

Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples
50لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
