Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Awwaleen (الأَوَّلِينَ): The earlier generations — those who came before, from the time of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) up to the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- Al-Akhireen (الآخِرِينَ): The later generations — those who come after, from the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) until the end of time.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah commands His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to respond to the disbelievers who denied the resurrection and questioned how they could be brought back to life after death. They asked mockingly: "When we die and become dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?" So Allah instructs His Messenger to declare clearly: "Say: Indeed, the former and the latter — all of them, without exception — will be gathered together."
This means that every human being who has ever lived — from the very first person to the very last one born before the Day of Judgment — will be raised from their graves and assembled before their Lord. No one will be left behind, no one will be forgotten, and no one will escape. The earlier nations like 'Ad, Thamud, and the people of Nuh, as well as all those who came after them, and all those who will come until the end of time — all will stand in one plain, awaiting the judgment of the Most Just.
The verse emphasizes the absolute power of Allah over all creation. The One who created them the first time from nothing is perfectly able to recreate them after death. This is not difficult for Him at all — it is as easy as saying "Be," and it is.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: every soul that has ever walked the earth — the prophets, the kings, the rich, the poor, the strong, the weak — all will stand before Allah on that momentous Day. This gathering is not a myth or a distant fantasy; it is a certainty that will come to pass.
This belief in the resurrection is the foundation of accountability. It gives meaning to our lives and reminds us that every deed, whether small or great, will be weighed. The One who created you the first time — and you were nothing — can certainly bring you back. So prepare for that Day with sincere faith, righteous actions, and a heart turned toward your Creator. Do not let the whispers of doubt distract you, for the promise of Allah is true, and His power knows no limits. Embrace this truth, and let it transform your life into one of purpose, hope, and devotion to the One who will gather all of humanity before Him.
