Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • الضَّالُّونَ (al-ḍāllūn): Those who have strayed from the path of guidance and truth.
  • الْمُكَذِّبُونَ (al-mukadhdhibūn): Those who deny and reject the truth, particularly the Resurrection and the promises and warnings of Allah.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Then Allah addresses the disbelievers of Makkah and all those who share their attitude, saying: "Then indeed, you, O you who have gone astray from the straight path and who deny the Resurrection and the promises and warnings of Allah, will certainly eat from the tree of Zaqqum." This is a tree of the most vile and bitter nature, growing in the depths of Hellfire. Its fruit is so foul that it is described as the worst of all fruits. In their extreme hunger—a hunger so intense that nothing else can satisfy it—they will be forced to fill their bellies with this abominable food. Then, upon eating it, they will drink over it boiling water, scalding and intensely hot, which will not quench their thirst but only increase their suffering. They will drink it greedily and repeatedly, like camels afflicted with intense thirst that drink without ever being satisfied, due to the disease that has struck them.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of turning away from Allah's guidance and rejecting His messengers. The path of misguidance leads to a destination of utter regret and torment. Yet, the mercy of Allah is vast—He has sent His messengers and revealed His books to warn us and guide us back to Him. The door of repentance remains open until the moment of death. So let every soul reflect: where is it heading? The choice is ours in this life, but the result is certain in the Hereafter. Turn to Allah now, before the Day comes when no excuse will be accepted and no return will be possible.

📜 Verse 49-53 — Al-Waqi'ah

Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples
Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day."
Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers,
Will be eating from trees of zaqqum
And filling with it your bellies
