Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Badee' (بَدِيعُ): The Originator and Creator of something without any prior example or model.
- Sahibah (صَاحِبَةٌ): A spouse or wife.
- Anna (أَنَّى): How? In what way?
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Exalted, is the Originator of the heavens and the earth — He created them from absolute nothingness, without any prior blueprint, model, or precedent. He alone brought into existence the vast cosmos, the celestial bodies, the earth with all its wonders, and everything within them. This unique act of creation, unmatched by any other, is a testament to His infinite power and absolute sovereignty.
The verse then poses a profound rhetorical question: "How could He have a son when He has no spouse?" This is a logical and rational refutation of those who claim that Allah has offspring. A child is born from a union of two beings — a father and a mother. Since Allah has no partner, no spouse, and no equal, the very notion of Him having a child is an impossibility that defies reason and logic. The polytheists of Makkah claimed that the angels were Allah's daughters, and some other groups made similar claims about Jesus (peace be upon him) — all of which are baseless fabrications that contradict both reason and divine revelation.
Furthermore, Allah created all things — every creature, every object, every being in existence. He is the sole Creator of everything, needing nothing and no one. He does not need a son to help Him, to inherit from Him, or to continue His work, for He is Self-Sufficient and Eternal. The idea of Him having a child would imply need, and Allah is completely free of all needs.
And finally, He is All-Knowing of everything. Nothing escapes His knowledge — not the smallest atom in the heavens or the earth, not a single secret, not a single thought that crosses the mind. His knowledge encompasses all things, past, present, and future. This attribute of perfect knowledge further emphasizes that His creation is deliberate, purposeful, and flawless.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, reflect deeply on this magnificent verse. The One who created the heavens and the earth without any prior example — the One who brought you into existence from nothing — how could He possibly have a child? This verse invites you to use your intellect, to ponder the perfection of Allah's attributes, and to recognize the absurdity of associating partners or offspring with Him.
Islam calls you to a pure, untainted belief in the Oneness of Allah — a belief that liberates your mind from superstition and your heart from confusion. When you truly understand that Allah is the Unique Originator, the Self-Sufficient, and the All-Knowing, your heart finds peace, your worship becomes sincere, and your life gains purpose. This is the beauty of Tawheed (monotheism) — it aligns your intellect with your fitrah (natural disposition) and connects you directly to your Creator without any intermediaries.
So, purify your belief, submit to the One who created you, and taste the sweetness of faith that comes from knowing that you worship the Lord of the heavens and the earth — the One who has no partner, no son, and no equal. Indeed, in this knowledge lies true success and eternal happiness.
