Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, in this noble verse, presents Maryam (Mary), the daughter of ʿImrān, as a shining example for the believers—a model of faith, purity, and unwavering obedience. She is praised for guarding her chastity with utmost care, keeping herself pure from any form of immorality. In recognition of her sincerity and devotion, Allah commanded the angel Jibrīl (Gabriel) to breathe into the opening of her garment, and by Allah’s almighty power, that breath reached her womb, and she conceived the Prophet ʿĪsā (Jesus) without a father—a miraculous sign of Allah’s absolute ability to do whatever He wills.
Maryam did not merely witness this miracle; she wholeheartedly believed in the words of her Lord—His laws, His commands, and His promises—and she affirmed the truth of all His revealed Books sent to His messengers, from the Scriptures of Ibrāhīm and Mūsā to the Zabūr of Dāwūd and the Injīl of ʿĪsā. She was among the truly obedient, those who submit to Allah with sincerity, performing His commands and abstaining from His prohibitions.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse is a radiant beacon for every believer. It teaches us that true faith is not merely a claim but a reality proven through action, purity, and steadfastness. Maryam’s example shows that when a servant sincerely guards their faith and chastity, Allah honors them with wonders beyond human imagination. She was a woman of extraordinary virtue, yet she remained humble and obedient—a reminder that greatness in Allah’s sight lies not in status or lineage, but in taqwā (God-consciousness) and submission.
Let this example inspire you to protect your own heart and actions, to trust in Allah’s words and His Books, and to strive to be among the qānitīn—those who stand in humble obedience before their Lord. For whoever clings to faith and righteousness, Allah opens doors of honor and mercy in this life and the next, just as He elevated Maryam above the women of all worlds. Embrace this path, and you will find peace, purpose, and the love of your Creator.
