Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ — "strayed from His path": meaning deviated from the straight path of Allah, which is Islam and true guidance.
- الْمُهْتَدِينَ — "the rightly guided": those who are guided to the truth and follow it with sincerity and correct intention.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, your Lord — glorified and exalted be He — knows best the true state of all His creation. He knows with perfect, comprehensive knowledge who has strayed from His path of guidance and truth, and He knows equally well who is rightly guided upon it. This verse comes as a direct reassurance to you, O Prophet, in the face of the accusations and mockery of your people, who called you insane and claimed you had deviated from the right way. Allah is telling you: do not be distressed by their words, for they are the ones who have truly strayed, while you are upon clear guidance from your Lord.
Indeed, the one who is truly insane and deficient in intellect is the one who has turned away from the path of Allah, rejecting the clear signs and the noble message brought by His Messenger. As for you, O Muhammad, and those who follow you with faith and sincerity, you are the people of sound intellect and complete reason, for you have been guided to the truth and have embraced it with certainty.
This verse also carries a profound lesson for every believer: leave the judgment of people's hearts and their ultimate ends to Allah alone. He knows the reality of every soul — who is sincere and who is hypocritical, who is upon guidance and who is lost in misguidance. Your duty, O believer, is only to convey the message with clarity and to live by its teachings, while entrusting the final account to the One who never errs in His knowledge.
A Call to Reflection:
How beautiful is this divine reassurance! It teaches us that when people accuse us, mock our faith, or question our integrity, we need not despair or waver. Our Lord sees all, knows all, and His knowledge encompasses what no human can perceive. The one who is truly misguided is not the believer who walks in the light of revelation, but rather the one who turns away from that light while claiming to possess wisdom.
So hold firm to your faith, dear reader, and take comfort in the certainty that Allah's knowledge is perfect and His judgment is just. He knows the reality of every claim, the truth behind every word, and the state of every heart. And on the Day when all secrets are laid bare, the distinction between the misguided and the rightly guided will be made manifest for all to see. Let this certainty fill your heart with tranquility, and let it strengthen your resolve to remain upon the path of guidance, regardless of what others may say or think.
