Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Falā tuṭiʿ (فَلَا تُطِعْ): "So do not obey" — a direct command to the Prophet ﷺ, and by extension to every believer, to refuse compliance with those who reject the truth.
- Al-Mukadhdhibīn (الْمُكَذِّبِينَ): "The deniers" — those who reject the message of Islam, specifically the disbelievers of Quraysh who persistently denied the Prophet's call to monotheism and the Hereafter.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse delivers a clear and decisive command from Allah to His Messenger ﷺ: remain steadfast upon the path of truth and do not yield to the pressures, demands, or temptations of those who deny the divine message. The verse specifically refers to the leaders of Quraysh, who repeatedly tried to persuade the Prophet ﷺ to compromise his mission — offering him wealth, status, or alliances in exchange for softening his stance on their idols and false beliefs. Allah firmly instructs him to reject all such overtures, for obedience to the deniers would mean abandoning the guidance revealed by the Lord of the Worlds.
The command carries a timeless lesson: the believer's loyalty belongs solely to Allah and His revelation, not to the whims of society, the threats of opponents, or the allure of worldly gain. Even if the deniers are numerous, influential, or persistent, their rejection does not diminish the truth — rather, it highlights the believer's duty to remain unshaken in conviction. This verse also reassures the Prophet ﷺ and his followers that Allah is fully aware of their struggles and will grant victory to His cause, regardless of how fiercely the deniers oppose it.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse speaks directly to your heart today. In every era, there are those who mock the truth, belittle the believers, and invite you to compromise your faith for fleeting benefits. But Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has already given you the answer: do not obey them. Stand firm, hold onto the Quran and the Sunnah, and trust that Allah's promise is true. The path of steadfastness may be difficult, but its reward is eternal — honor in this life and Paradise in the next. Let this verse be a source of strength whenever you face pressure to abandon your principles, and remember that the Prophet ﷺ, the best of creation, faced the same trials and emerged victorious through unwavering patience and reliance on his Lord. May Allah make us among those who hear His command and obey, and who never bow to the deniers.
